Peabodys Unveil Documentary And News Nominees Including ‘Lucy And Desi’

The Peabodys on Tuesday revealed a total of 27 nominees in the Documentary and News categories for the 83rd annual Peabody Awards.

Among the titles in the mix in the documentary field are Prime Video’s Lucy and Desi, Showtime’s We Need to Talk About Cosby and HBO Max and Judd Apatow’s George Carlin’s American Dream. In news, multiple nominees includes works from PBS’ Frontline and Vice as well as reports from CNN, ABC News Digital and CBS’ 60 Minutes.

This is the first batch of nominees for this year’s Peabodys, which recognize the most compelling and empowering stories in 2022 across broadcasting and streaming media. Nominees in the organization’s remaining categories — Entertainment, Arts, Children’s/Youth, Podcast/Radio, Interactive & Immersive, and Public Service — will be announced Thursday.

Winners will be revealed May 9 and celebrated June 11 at the Beverly Wilshire, marking the group’s first in-person ceremony since 2019 and the first-ever taking place in Los Angeles.

Lucy and Desi
Director Amy Poehler explores the surprising story of how Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, a woman and a Cuban man, became TV’s most powerful couple in the 1950s, transformed numerous aspects of television production, and pioneered the American sitcom as we know it.
